SAN JOSE, CA, SEPTEMBER 26, 2019 – Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley (BGCSV) marked its official Grand Opening on November 13th at the Alum Rock and Levin Clubhouse of their newly remodeled technology labs fully sponsored by Google with a ribbon-cutting event.
San Jose Councilmember Magdalena Carrasco, Councilmember Sergio Jimenez, and Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy Manager Javier Gonzalez were among the guests and speakers at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.
“Through Google’s support, we can ensure the highest quality delivery of our STEM components 21st Century Learning Initiative, which is our suite of STEM, literacy, college and career readiness programs” commented Max Duganne, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley.
As part of their college and career readiness programs, BGCSV incorporates Grow With Google—Google’s free training, tools and resources platform—into their Clubhouses. Featuring resources for both educators and students, Grow With Google helps develop the applied digital skills our youth need to be successful in school and in the workforce.
The technology lab renovations at the Alum Rock and Levin Clubhouses come equipped with all new Dell desktops and laptops, Lego WeDo coding robotics equipment, and new renovations and furnishings.
These new upgrades to the technology labs will support over 400 Clubhouse youth further develop their technology skills during after-school and summer programing, reducing the digital divide within their youth and help prepare them for future STEM careers, and help offset state budget cuts in feeder schools that have resulted in student to computer ratios that have soared to as high as 30 to 1.
